Tuesday 9th October 2018 – Personal, Social and Health Education Day
I am writing to inform you that next week students in our Middle School, Years 7&8, will be participating in their first Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum day. The students will be working in their form groups for most of the day with their form tutors and volunteers from the sixth form to support the active learning approaches.
Students will have lessons delivered by school staff and will focus around building positive relationships with their peers and improve their understanding of issues related to bullying, including social media and cyberbullying as well as mental health awareness. The day will also include some topics to develop students’ knowledge of relationships and sex education, which are age appropriate and also part of the Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum.
An outline programme for each year group is as follows:
Year 7: Team building activities; forming positive relationships; puberty; mental health awareness; online stress and anti-bullying.
Year 8: Team building activities; forming positive relationships; puberty; mental health awareness; online stress and anti-bullying.
I am sure that the day will be both informative and useful to your child as they progress through school. If, for whatever reason, you do not want your child to attend the Sex and Relationships lesson focused for this session on puberty in single sex groups, please contact me at school as soon as possible so alternative arrangements can be put in place for that session.
